EBO Beard Butter is an afrocentric cosmetic company located in Washington D.C., their product is designed to moisturize, condition, and style your beard. It is made with all-natural ingredients such as shea butter, vitamins, and my special blend of essential oils. A family-owned business with over 90,000 sales since 2015.

Challenge
Create a new visual identity using current design elements that would elevate the brand’s perceived value but still be recognizable to tenured customers.

In the discovery sessions, we sat down with CEO and Owner, Edward to clearly define goals, pinpoint challenges and identify existing and potential customers. We unsurfaced meaningful insight into what Ed found fundamental to his brand and where he wanted to take it.

I designed an identity that reflects his vision for the brand, the customer’s experience with the product, and the core principles that represent the community and environment of Washington DC. The color scheme represents trustworthiness, peace, stability and strength. The minimalist approach reflects the innovation and simplicity of his ingredients. Within the world of men's cosmetics, Ebo Beard Butter and users of the product pride themselves in authenticity, using afro-centric elements throughout the product packaging to give a grounded and close-to-earth feel.

We infused EBO’s identity with all the energy and dynamism of simple life, expressing it through bold use of color and conventional graphic solutions. As a result, the revamped EBO’s brand has become more than just a part of DMV culture; it’s a true embodiment of innovation, boldness, and a drive for what’s next. Within a year of implementation, EBO Beard Butter saw a 252% increase in sales, compared to the previous year.
